Talk Direct continues its work in the community

Doncaster Deaf TrustOn 18th of January Talk Direct continued its work in the community by visiting the Doncaster Deaf Trust to hold a technology day at the college. Over the years we have hosted many of these events for people who suffer from a visual impairment but today the students were either deaf or had autism. This was an ideal opportunity to show how technology can help people with a disability in their everyday lives with hopefully not too much fuss. On the day our O2 gurus, James Blackwell, Gareth Williams and Rebekah Brett had volunteered to deliver the training.

The first session delivered by Bekah was all about online safety. She covered topics about how to not share personal details and the importance of password protection. In this technology driven age it is vitally important that people of all ages know how to use the internet in a fun but a safe way. The response from the students was first class and it was great to see how they interacted with all the safety tips they received.

The next session was with James who was covering smartphone apps that could help the students with their disability. Nearly everyone has a smartphone these days but many people are unaware about the accessibility functions that are available. There are also so many apps available that can help people with a disability and at Talk Direct we are keen to educate the community on what is available to help them.

The final training was from Gareth who invited the students to bring their phones for him to fix any issues they might be having. This proved invaluable as many of the people we saw had some sort of an issue with their phone which Gareth managed to fix on site. What might seem a little problem for some can be a major problem for others and stop them getting the most from their smartphone.

The staff from Talk Direct were fantastic on the day and really enjoyed the experience. The Doncaster Deaf Trust is a fantastic college and do so much great work in helping people with a disability. It was great to support them with this technology day and thank you to our Gurus who helped to make this an invaluable day for the college students.
